Dear Paul,

According to Duchamp-biographer Calvin Tomkins, the the break-up between Duchamp and Kiesler occured when Kiesler wrote a "maliciuos letter" to Breton, accusing the Surrealist Matta of being responsible for the suicide of Arshile Gorky in 1948 - his wife had just left him for Matta (see: "Marcel Duchamp. A Biography", New York: Henry Holt, 1996, 365-66)

For an interesting take on the Kiesler/Duchamp relationship also see Lind Henderson, "Duchamp in Context", Princeton UP, 1998, p. 214-217).

One question: where was the Caumont/Cooper article published that you are referring to? We don't have it in our archives and would like to obtain a copy. Good luck with your research,

Thomas Girst
