Dear Sonia,
unfortunately there'a not much literature
on the right part of TU'M but yes, the forms are
indeed derived from the 3 STANDARD STOPPAGES.
Art Science Research Lab is examining the
painting and we keep you posted re: any new
results.
In one of the most recent books on Duchamp,
Dawn Ades, Neil Cox, David Hopkins (eds.)
"Marcel Duchamp", London: Thames&Hudson, 1999,
the 3 Standard Stoppages as seen in the painting
are being linked to William Hogarth's
'serpentine line', "the ideal compositional form
proposed by the painter in his 'Analysis of
Beauty' (1753)" [see p. 173].
Also check out Linda D. Henderson's 'Duchamp in
Context' (Princeton: Princeton UP, 1998),
pp. 208-210. In Arturo Schwarz's third edition
of his "Marcel Duchamp. Complete Works", vol. 1,
(New York: Delano, 1997), the right part of TU M'
is discussed in chapter XVI, p. 225.
I do not see any direct link between TU M' and
the Rotoreliefs.
Best,
Thomas
