Dear Shane,

for starters there is 'Tout-Fait: The Marcel
Duchamp Studies Online Journal' at
www.toutfait.com. While the contributing
writers and scholars might have different
takes on Duchamp, they would all agree that he's
one of 20th century's most influential artist.

As for the Mona Lisa, the aforementioned
website's publisher, Rhonda R. Shearer argues
that Duchamp superimposed a picture of his own
face on the Mona Lisa, leading art historians
astray for almost 80 years since noone ever
recognized this. There's nothing published on her
findings yet, besides an article in Science and
other magazines.

The Mona Lisa, as today, is regarded as the most
prominent oil on canvas ever. Duchamp painting a
Mustache and Goatee on her in 1919 is a very
iconoclastic act, to say the least.

For further reading, I would recommend
Francis M. Naumann who has published
widely on Duchamp.

Best and good luck,

Thomas
