I know that a signature alone is not enough to prove that it was him. What I meant was, can someone look at the signature and say, yes, the slant of the "D" is the same as on another painting known to be his. The way the "u" looks is exactly like another, etc., etc.
One other very important comment I have is this: If I could paint as well as this particular painting of the Brooklyn Bridge, I certainly would not put Duchamp's name on it, I would use my own. And if I wanted to be passing fakes around, hell, I would paint a Piccasso or a Rembrandt for much more money. Besides the painting, complete with frame in mint condition only had a price tag of $40 in a hospital thrift store. The paint, canvas, and frame alone would easily double that price.
