While I can't directly answer your question,
I can recommend you look at the text of Duchamp's
lecture "The Creative Act" given at a Texas university in the 1950's...... the quote, if not
directly Duchamp's , sounds very close to ideas that he put forward.... in my recollection
no-one else in the art world made such comments prior to Duchamp.....
