I think you're on to something here, and I loved the movie. I am curious about which particular frame you are mentioning. I can't claim to be the official Duchamp expert, but I think one could see the entire process of entering the John Malkovich portal in the film as analogous to the experience of seeing "Given" in person in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I had the pleasure of making a trip up there to see it several years ago (as an obsessive Duchamp fan, this was something of a pilgrimage...). When entering the room which houses the "Given" installation (which is a separate room off to the side of the main room containing the bulk of the Duchamp collection there), the viewer is drawn to her/his left, where s/he sees a door with 2 holes, roughly at eyelevel. When the viewer walks over to look through the "peepholes," he us forced to look at an incredibally complicated three dimensional scene which Duchamp has created. Duchamp has set the entire work up so that the viewer is forced to look through the same perspective, his perspective...
